Violence in Politics

Violence has no place in our political discourse. Yet from time to time ugly events in politics do occur. House Republican Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) and his family were subjected to threats of such violence recently.  He is a congressman representing the Seventh District of Virginia. His campaign office was shot at after the health care bill passed the Congress . He and  his family were threatened by  A Philadelphia Man, responsible for making and posting a video on UTube. The man  has been charged for making the threats.

AndIThoughT© …….. that our political discourse is becoming more and more violent. The  nation is becoming more and more polarized.  This was not the only recent instance of intolerance against the  representatives serving in the US House.  Some health bill protesters  at an event in the nation’s Capital were reported abusing Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) and others by using racial epithets.   AndIWonder© …….. why?

These acts by few are despicable and the  behavior inflammatory to say the least. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Minority Leader of the House  John Boehner and other leaders strongly condemned these incidents. Hope that helps in calming down people on all sides of this issue.

AndThenIThoughT© …….. that, in a democracy, the people debating ideas in a policy debate should keep the temperature of the debate under control. Not doing so, we run the risk of loosing civility.  AndNowIWonder© …….. what triggered the loss of civility.
